Ko

Ko was a family friend of Billy’s who helped to translate the message on Adam’s lantern.

When Billy was ten years old, his parents met Ko, who was running a large garden in the Orient. Ko knew several languages and had a vast collection of Oriental lanterns. One of the lanterns that Ko’s father gave him on his fourth birthday had an inscription that read, “The dragon you fear is only as potent as your imagination.” Adam asked Ko what it meant, and Ko replied that the meaning was up to interpretation. Ko translated the message on Adam’s lantern, but Adam still didn’t understand his message. Ko said that, as before, Adam must discover what this meant to him.

When Squatt and Baboo stole most of Ko’s lanterns, leaving only a few behind, Billy told Adam that some of Ko’s advice didn’t make sense until a day or two later. During a battle with the Tengas, Bulk, Skull, and Ko were in the area. After the fight, Ko left Billy and Adam with the remaining lanterns.
