Frequency Reverser

The Frequency Reverser was an invention of Billy’s used to reverse the hypnotic effects of Beamcaster’s mind control spell.

Hail Lord Zedd

When Lord Zedd’s Beamcaster monster was able to mind-control the Red, Yellow and Black Rangers, Tommy asked Billy to create a device that could reverse the effects of Beamcaster’s Zedd Waves.

Billy set to work creating a device in the Command Center whilst Beamcaster continued hypnotising the civilians attending the Stone Canyon Triathlon. The device was a small blue unit mounted on a tripod with a blue probe attached to the side. Completed in a short time, Tommy insisted that Billy bring it into battle despite it being untested. Morphing to confront the monster, Billy dropped the machine while dodging incoming Zedd Wave attacks.

Surrounded by mind-controlled civilians, Kimberly observed that it was being trampled under the feet of the same people it was built to save. Now trapped, the remaining Rangers were subjected to Beamcaster’s mind control.

 

Radio Shack

The remains of the trampled device were found by Rocky, Adam and Aisha. Noticing their interest in it, the mind-controlled civilians began advancing on them. Before they could be captured, Alpha 5 teleported them and the device to the safety of the Command Center.

When Alpha explained the purpose of the device to the teens, Aisha remarked that whilst the casing was destroyed, the internal components appeared to be intact. Aisha explained that she had spent the last three summers working at a radio station and had learned about broadcast frequencies. Aisha proceeded to reinsert some loose wires back into the casing and claimed that while it would broadcast, it would not be at full strength.

Zordon instructed the teens to point the device at the source of the frequency malfunction, which he reasoned was the Rangers rather than Beamcaster. The teens pointed the device at the image of the Rangers in the Viewing Globe.

White energy flowed from the device into the image of the Rangers but it was still not strong enough. In order to amplify the signal, Zordon said he would boost it with some of his own “brain power” and more while energy flowed from the sides of his head and into the Frequency Reverser. As the spell on the Rangers was broken, they teleported back to the Command Center in confusion.

 

Changing the station

With the Rangers now free, Zordon instructed them to use the machine to defeat Beamcaster. When Billy attempted to use the device to attack Beamcaster, the monster was able to deflect the incoming energy beams.

The Rangers then resorted to using their Power Blaster to destroy Beamcaster. [MMPR2: “Zedd Waves“]
