Located within Finster’s workroom in Rita’s moon palace was a large machine called the Monstermatic. This machine dominated the small space assigned to Finster and was comprised of a large bronze cylinder, fed by a conveyer belt and connected to a large silver hose. The Monstermatic featured two large dials showing readings of the process as well as a pressure vent that would exhaust plumes of white smoke.

When Finster returned to the moon palace in 1993 following his 10,000 year imprisonment, Rita ordered him to create new Putty Patrollers so that she begin her assault on Earth. Finster set about manipulating red clay into a moulding press which changed the clay into the form of 6″ high figures. Finster remarked that even if the Putty Patrol fell in battle, he could easily make more. Finster set a total of twenty clay figures on tray which was then fed into the Monstermatic.

Setting the timer for ten seconds, Finster pulled a lever on the side of the machine which began the process. The machine soon began to shake and whistle as the clay figures inside moved through it, eventually depositing fully grown Putty Patrollers from the hose attached to the machine. Shortly after suffering her first defeat, Rita ordered Finster to deliver her a new monster to attack the Earth. Finster sculpted Bones and set the Monstermatic to full power. When Bones was fully grown, the monster greeted the villains by removing its entire head rather than just its hat, causing Finster to remark that he should have set the machine to low power instead.[MMPR1: “High Five“]

Finster was not the only one able to use the Monstermatic. Some time after the Green Ranger joined the Power Rangers, Squatt and Baboo made their way into Finster’s workshop with the aim of creating a new monster to surprise Rita. Baboo revealed a clay turtle with a traffic light stuck on top of its head, and placed it on the conveyer belt. Squatt contributed a number of weapons and the pair were able to give life to the new creation named Shellshock. [MMPR1: “The Trouble with Shellshock“]

When Lord Zedd returned to the palace, he would use his own Z Staff to infuse objects with life to create new monsters, meaning that Finster and his Monstermatic were mostly unused. Despite this, Finster could still be seen working on his creations in his workshop. When Zedd’s first monster was destroyed by the Power Rangers, he remarked that had Zedd used one of Finster’s monsters, Zedd would not have been defeated. [MMPR2: “The Mutiny, Part III “]

As a wedding gift to Rita and Zedd, Finster used the Monstermatic to recreate a number of Rita’s favourite monsters to serve as wedding guests and the meanest ones to serve as a force to ambush the Power Rangers.[MMPR2: “The Wedding, Part I“] Rita soon demanded more monsters with more gifts, and Finster duly obliged, remarking that he would use the Monstermatic to program the recreated monsters with a generosity factor of ten. Finster would use his machine soon afterwards to create Repellator to attack the Earth when most of the Rangers were off-world on Edenoi. [MMPR3: “A Friend in Need, Part I“]

When Rita wanted a group of monsters to ambush the Rangers, Finster used his best monster moulds to recreate Fighting Flea, Lizzinator, Stag Beetle and Octophantom, despite Stag Beetle and Octophantom being created by Zedd rather than Finster. [MMPR3: “ Ninja Quest, Part I“]
