The Communicator disc was a small two-way video communicator provided by Alpha 5 to allow for communication with the Command Center whilst the teens were powerless.

When Master Vile was able to use the Orb of Doom to reverse time on Earth, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers found themselves reverted to children and unable to use their powers. The kids made their way to the Command Center to seek the help of Zordon and Alpha 5, before discovering that an implosion device had been planted outside. Zordon decided to evacuate the Command Center whilst Alpha worked to defuse the bomb.

Before teleporting the kids to safety, Alpha picked up a small disc-shaped device from the control panel and handed it to Billy. Alpha explained that the device would work like a miniature Viewing Globe and would enable the kids to contact the Command Center. Shortly after defusing the bomb, Alpha contacted the kids in Angel Grove, who were caught by Bulk and Skull whilst using the Communicator. However, Billy was able to pass off the device as as demonstration of the effects of light on reflective surfaces. [MMAR: “Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part II“]

The Communicator disc appeared to be a small, disc shaped device approximately five inches in diameter and could fit within the palm of a persons hand. It was metallic purple in color similar to the Command Center’s control panels. On one side featured a circular pearlescent screen, which would activate when used, whilst the rear of the device was black.  The Communicator could both make and receive calls to and from the Command Center. The disc would make an almost identical alert chime when a communication was inbound as the Rangers’ wrist Communicators did.

The Communicator was not resistant to water. During a confrontation with Bratboy at a water park in Angel Grove called Splash City, the disc became wet and would not function until it had been dried. During this time, the Communicator would only crackle with static. [MMAR: “Attack of the 60′ Bulk“]
