Mantis had the appearance of a large praying mantis, complete with sharp claws and insect-like features. His abilities included:
- Claw Attacks: Mantis’s claws were sharp enough to slice clean through tree trunks.
- Praying Mantis Kung Fu: He was an expert in praying mantis kung fu, which he used to combat the Rangers effectively.
- Summoning Putties: Mantis could summon Putties to assist him in battle when he was at a disadvantage.
- Projectile Defense: He could bat aside arrows from Kim’s Power Bow, showcasing his defensive capabilities.

Encounter and Battle
Mantis first engaged Trini in battle, demonstrating his superior fighting skills. Despite her valiant efforts, Trini found herself outmatched by Mantis’s expertise in kung fu. When she began to gain the upper hand, Mantis dishonorably summoned a crowd of Putties to aid him. Trini called in the other Rangers for help, prompting Mantis to vanish, accusing her of having no honor.
During the battle, Mantis displayed his formidable abilities by slicing through tree trunks with his claws and deflecting Kim’s Power Bow arrows. His agility and combat skills posed a significant challenge to the Rangers.
Final Battle and Defeat
The battle intensified as Mantis grew to a giant size. Despite his formidable skills and dishonorable tactics, the Rangers summoned the Megazord to confront him. In the final showdown, the Megazord Power Sword was used to destroy the giant Mantis, ending his threat to the Rangers and restoring peace.
Subsequent Encounters
Mantis reappeared later as part of a hallucination induced by Zedd to make the teens face some of the best monsters from their past encounters.
