Hasbro Brand Manager On Future ‘Power Rangers’ Movies

Hasbro Global Brand Development and Marketing Manager Beth Bamrick has opened up regarding the Toy conglomerate’s plans for future Power Rangers films.

Lionsgate’s 2017 Power Rangers film introduced a new version of the titular team with a cast that included Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger. The actor recently revealed a new Power Rangers film was in the works but pointed to a reboot as he confirmed neither he nor any of the cast are involved with the project.

The last Power Rangers film was released in 2017 under the Lionsgate banner. In early 2018, Hasbro purchased the Power Rangers license and will now work with Paramount on a new film for the franchise. Saban was previously reported to be hoping to do a continuation of the story they had begun with the 2017 film. During an earnings call with investors earlier this year, Hasbro their reaffirmed plans for more Power Rangers films. As to whether or not the next film would be a reboot or serve as a sequel has not yet been clarified. But after Power Rangers underperformed at the box office with a disappointing $140 million worldwide gross, a reboot would come as no great surprise.

While Bamrick couldn’t offer much, she did shed some light on Hasbro’s approach to the franchise and when we could learn more about their plans for the future of the Power Rangers franchise, telling Comicbook.com:

“So I can’t comment as much as everyone would love me too on the movie per se, but what I will say is we’re really looking at every opportunity. We are planning two and three years out, so we do have a lot in the pipeline, but we have a lot to get to first like we talked about. We kind of just took it on, so we will definitely have more to come. It’s top of mind with us as well as we kind of think about where we want to bring the brand next but again, I think it’s…we do have some plans that are out there which we’ll be excited to share with you when we can, but yeah we’re definitely looking at it like a 2 to 3 year approach in everything that we’re doing.”

Although it might be a while before we see another iteration of Power Rangers on the silver screen, fans can still enjoy Lionsgate’s 2017 Power Rangers film.

Directed by Dean Israelite, Power Rangers stars  stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason Lee Scott (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler as Billy Cranston (Blue Ranger), Naomi Scott as Kimberly Hart (Pink Ranger), Becky G as Trini Kwan (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin as Zack Taylor (Black Ranger), Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa, Bill Hader as Alpha 5, and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. Here’s the official synopsis:

SABAN’S POWER RANGERS follows five ordinary teens who must become something extraordinary when they learn that their small town of Angel Grove — and the world — is on the verge of being obliterated by an alien threat. Chosen by destiny, our heroes quickly discover they are the only ones who can save the planet. But to do so, they will have to overcome their real-life issues and before it’s too late, band together as the Power Rangers.
