Appearance

The Gnarly Gnome had a distinct, gnome-like appearance. He was clad in a rustic outfit complete with a horned helmet adorned with various trinkets and medallions. His attire included a brown tunic, belt, and boots, giving him a traditional yet imposing look. He carried an accordion, his primary tool for hypnosis, and later wielded a rake that served as a formidable weapon.

Abilities

One of the Gnarly Gnome’s primary abilities was his skill with a hypnotic accordion. This instrument allowed him to cast a spell over individuals, controlling their actions and leading them away from safety. His plan was to use this ability to hypnotize children and hold them captive, thereby setting a trap for the Rangers.

The Gnarly Gnome could also turn invisible, a useful skill for evading capture or escaping when in trouble. This invisibility was particularly handy when he needed to avoid the wrath of Rita after falling asleep on the job. His rake was not just an ordinary gardening tool; it was a powerful weapon capable of shooting red and white energy bolts along with sparkling white spheres.

Encounters and Battles

The Gnarly Gnome’s mission began outside the Youth Center. Using his hypnotic accordion, he successfully hypnotized Melissa’s friends and led them to a cave near Angel Grove. Inside the cave, the Gnarly Gnome indulged in a meal prepared by Squatt and Baboo, while the hypnotized girls and Putties danced around. After the feast, the Gnarly Gnome, Squatt, and Baboo took a nap, during which his boots somehow became untied.

Upon waking and finding himself in trouble for falling asleep, the Gnarly Gnome turned invisible to escape Rita’s anger. He reappeared outside the cave, armed with his rake, and faced the Rangers in battle. Despite the initial plan, he did not use his accordion to hypnotize the Rangers at this point. In the ensuing battle, the Rangers used their Power Blaster to break the Gnarly Gnome into bits of rock. However, Rita’s wand reassembled and enlarged him, turning the Gnarly Gnome into a giant.

Giant Form

In his giant form, the Gnarly Gnome’s abilities were amplified. He could shoot energy bolts from the horns of his helmet, similar to those from his rake. His size and strength were significantly increased, making him a more formidable opponent.

Only after the Megazord had disarmed him of his rake did the giant Gnarly Gnome resort to using his hypnotic accordion. The music from the accordion created illusions, making the Rangers think they were in a city rather than the mountains. At one point, the giant Gnarly Gnome appeared as a building, and then as a boulder, disorienting the Rangers and complicating the battle.

Despite his enhanced abilities and cunning illusions, the giant Gnarly Gnome was ultimately defeated. The Megazord Power Sword destroyed him, bringing an end to his threat.
