The Shark Cycles were the vehicles of the last Mighty Morphin Power Ranger team, apparently designed and built by Alpha 5.

The spirit of the shark

Lord Zedd used Finster’s vehicular transformer apparatus to transform an ordinary taxi cab into the Crabby Cabbie monster, a creature that retained its wheels rather than growing legs. Recognising the creatures speed, Zordon advised the Rangers that they would need to surround the monster on all sides to stop it.

Zordon explained that in order to do this, the Rangers would need new vehicles that were fast enough to keep up with him. On cue, Alpha used the Command Center controls to summon five new Shark Cycles, which appeared on raised platforms behind the Viewing Globe. Upon seeing the new cycles for the first time, Billy remarked that Alpha 5 had outdone himself, with Tommy and Aisha agreeing.

As the Rangers approached the cycles, Zordon explained that the Shark Cycles were created out of the fossilized fin of a great prehistoric shark and that like the shark, they were swift and powerful. Like the animal spirits that resided within each of the Rangers, spirit of the great shark resided within the Shark Cycles.

Zordon warned that the Ranger should always be alert and careful when riding them in order for the cycles to serve them well. Alpha 5 informed the Rangers that he had also equipped the Shark Cycles with several battle features. Armed with the new vehicles, the Rangers and the cycles teleported back to Angel Grove.

Pursuing the Crabby Cabbie

As the Rangers patrolled the roads of Angel Grove, the Blue Ranger remarked that it wouldn’t be too hard to find the monster with the Shark Cycles, to which the Red Ranger joked that his shark could smell its prey already.

In pursuit of the Cabbie, the Rangers attempted to maneuver their cycles around the monster, but he was able to pull out and away from them, at which point he was grown to giant size by Rita and Zedd.

Appearance and design

Each Shark Cycle was similar to a motorcycle but with a sleek shark-inspired design. At the rear of each cycle was a large tail fin that protracted from above the seat. The tail fins of the Red and White Shark Cycles were twice as tall as the fins of the other cycles.

The front of each cycle featured bodywork reminiscent of a shark’s head, with painted, pointed teeth and pointed noses. The Yellow Shark Cycle appeared to have a blade of spikes at the very front of the cycle. The rear of each cycle featured red brake lights. [MMPR3: “Follow that Cab!“]

Powers and abilities

When the Rangers were under attack from a team of resurrected monsters, the White Ranger called on the Shark Cycles to corral them into one area. The Rangers were soon joined by the Pink Ranger on her Shark Cycle.

The Pink Ranger’s Shark Cycle shared the design of the Yellow Shark Cycle, with a long spiked nose. Rito Revolto was able to jump onto the Pink Ranger’s Shark Cycle as she was driving it, making it difficult for her to control. The White Ranger drove his Shark Cycle alongside and managed to kick Rito to the ground.

The Yellow Ranger was able to perform a wheelie which allowed her to hit the Artist Mole monster with the front wheel of her Shark Cycle. The Black and Blue Rangers were able to charge their cycles at the Vampirus so fast that it was somersaulted into the air before landing on the road. [MMPR3: “A Different Shade of Pink, Part I“]

As Kimberly passed her powers to Kat, Zordon introduced her to the Pink Shark Cycle, which appeared to leap out of nearby podium, shaking its fin. As it approached the ground, the wheels and engines of the cycle morphed out of the body. Zordon stated that Kat would command the cycle with precision and care. [MMPR3: “A Different Shade of Pink, Part III“]
