Tor joins the team

During the battle with Lord Zedd’s Four Head monster, the Rangers quickly found themselves in a losing battle despite forming the Mega TigerzordZordon instructed Alpha 5 to activate Tor the Shuttlezord, which would help the Rangers win their victory. The history of the Zord was unclear, but Zordon and Alpha’s familiarity with the machine and its compatibility with the Thunderzords suggests that it may have been created as part of the creation of the Thunderzord fleet.

Tor appeared to teleport to the battle in Angel Grove, growing from a small to giant size with a green glow. The Zord took the form of a massive turtle. The Zord was mostly green in color with gold and silver highlights throughout. The left and right sides of the Zord featured large silver cannons. The Zord could move thanks to four short legs underneath the shell. The rear legs included two large tank treads. The head of the Zord sat atop an articulated neck and featured a green helmet with a long golden horn.

Tor appeared to operate entirely independently. Tor was not assigned to any Ranger to control nor was there ever any sign that the Zord was operated remotely from the Command Center.

Strengths and weaknesses

Whilst Tor had strong defensive capabilities, its short legs and large shell were a point of weakness. A strong enough force would be able to knock Tor on to its back, where it would remain until it was assisted. Tor was particularly vulnerable to this kind of attack when in Tor Warrior Mode.

Tor’s shoulder cannons appeared to be powerful but were of no use against the Four Head monster, a creature that proved itself to be very formidable. Tor was able to join with the other Thunderzords to form the Thunder Ultrazord. [MMPR2: “A Monster of Global Proportions“]

Tor was strong enough to withstand the onslaught of Zedd’s Serpentera. Serpentera was unable to damage Tor despite attempting to crush the Zord beneath it’s gigantic foot. Tor appeared to be able to drain energy from Serpentera during the assault, forcing Zedd to withdraw. [MMPR2: “The Power Transfer, Part II“] Zedd would use the same tactic against Tor a second time, only to realise that Tor was able to drain more than half of Serpentera’s power. Fate of the Thunderzords

During the confrontation against Rito Revolto, the Thunder Megazord and White Tiger Warrior Mode was outnumbered against Rito and his monster gang. The damaged Thunderzord power accelerator was at peak level due to the power bank leaking energy, despite Alpha 5’s best efforts to contain it. With the unstable power accelerator beyond limits, the Thunderzords began to explode and fall apart piece by piece, with no way to revitalise them. As Tor was not involved in the battle, its fate is unknown. [MMPR3: “Ninja Quest, Part I“]
