The Ancient Zords of Zordnia

In late 1995, Finster revealed to Rita and Lord Zedd that he had finally been able to decipher the Scrolls of Zordnia after years of failed attempts. When Lord Zedd appeared confused, Finster explained that the Scrolls of Zordnia showed the location of the dormant Zords. Finster planned to use the technology from the Ninjazords alongside a power source to bring the dormant Zords to life. With Zedd’s approval, Finster, Squatt and Baboo ventured out to recover the dormant Zords.

While wandering through a dense jungle thick with vegetation and smoke, an exhausted Squatt came to rest upon a large stone. Upon noticing its strange shape, Squatt pulled some of the vegetation away to reveal the stone was in fact part of one of the dormant Zords, towering over the trio.

Bringing the Zord to life

Rita Repulsa met with the brainwashed Kat at a park in Angel Grove and ordered her to steal a Power Coin from one of the teens. Lord Zedd intended to use the stolen coin to gain entry to a Ninjazord to copy its technology. Using a Tenga attack as a distraction, Kat managed to steal Kimberly’s Power Coin from her unattended backpack. Kat delivered the Power Coin to Rita and Zedd in their moon palace.

Zedd decided to use the coin to target the Falconzord, thereby rendering the Rangers defenceless. They sent a giant Goldar to attack the city who was met by a giant Ninjor with the White Ranger supporting in his Falconzord. As Goldar pummelled Ninjor, Kat infiltrated the Falconzord and hijacked it, stealing it away to the moon. With no support, the weakened Ninjor shrank and was kidnapped by Zedd, imprisoning him in a jar. On the moon, now armed with the battle technology from the Falconzord and Ninjor as a power source, Zedd was ready to bring the dormant Zords to life.

The Zord Heist

In the Command Center, Zordon concluded that in stealing a Power Coin, Falconzord and Ninjor, Zedd must have discovered the lost Zords of Zordnia and intended to use them to create a fleet of evil fighting machines. [MMPR3: “Changing of the Zords, Part I“]

Needing a team of pilots to operate the Zords, Zedd decided to use the Rangers themselves as his slaves. He sent a monster to Earth to draw the Rangers out and kidnapped Kimberly during the distraction. With Kimberly as hostage, Zedd forced the Rangers to agree to pilot his Zords. However, Billy was secretly concocting a plan to steal the Zords, reprogramming them to their Power Coins to gain control. [MMPR3: “Changing of the Zords, Part II“]

Controlling the Blue Shogunzord

The Blue Ancient Zord featured design elements similar to that of the Wolf Ninjazord on its head. There was a large golden square on its chest which flashed when the Zord was activated. The cockpit of the Blue Ancient Zord appeared to be identical to the cockpit of the Wolf Ninjazord. The area was a small, accessed from an entry point towards the front-left of the cockpit. The cockpit had a large forward window that was outlined in blue.

The rear wall of the cockpit featured various flashing status indicators and a small, golden illuminated disc that bore the symbol of the Wolf, as was seen on the Blue Ranger’s Ninja Power Coin and Ninja Ranger suit. Like the Thunderzords, the cockpit did not have a seat for its pilot.

The Blue Ranger was able to make adjustments to quantum linear controller inside his cockpit in order to connect the Zords to the Power Coins, releasing them from Zedd’s control. With the Zords under control, they were able to use them against the giant See Monster.

Powers and abilities

The Blue Ancient Zord was able to summon a large staff weapon. Upon the staff was the same square symbol found on the Zord. The Blue Ancient Zord was able to combine with the other Zords to form a Megazord. As its arms folded within its torso and its legs folded upwards, the Zord formed the right-side arm of the combination. Zordon stated the new Zords would be known as Shogunzords. [MMPR3: “Changing of the Zords, Part III“]

The Blue Shogunzord could also contribute to a tower formation with the other Zords, standing atop the shoulders of the Black, Yellow and Red Shogunzords.  [MMPR3: “Follow That Cab!“] and Yellow Shogunzords. The Blue Shogunzord was equipped to launch a missile from its middle finger. During the fight with the Sinister Simian, the missile was equipped with an antidote that could return the monster to its normal animal form. [MMPR3: “A Chimp in Charge“]

As part of the Shogun Megazord, the Blue Shogunzord could also help form the Shogun MegaFalconzord. [MMPR3: “Master Vile and the Metallic Armor, Part III“] The Shogun MegaFalconzord could subsequently combine with Titanus to form the Shogun Ultrazord. [MMPR3: “The Sound of Dischordia“]

The past and future of the Shogunzords

When Master Vile succeeded in reverting the timeline to turn the teens into children, the Alien Rangers of Aquitar were granted control of the Shogunzords to help defend the Earth. The Alien Rangers could be control the Shogunzords without the need for a cockpit. The Blue Shogunzord was extremely similar in appearance to the Blue Battle Borg. [MMPR3: “Alien Rangers of Aquitar, Part II“] However, the Alien Rangers could still control the Zords from cockpits, which they could board by entering through the golden symbols on the chests of the Shogunzords. When the Zeo Crystal was used to restore the Earth’s timeline, the fate of the Shogunzords was left unclear. In their restored timeline, Tommy remarked that Ninjor was back in his Temple and the Zords were gone, suggesting that the Rangers no longer had access to any of their previous machines.
