Forming the Ultrazord
A short time after Jason and Tommy discovered Titanus, the Rangers fought against Rita Repulsa’s Wheel of Misfortune. In an effort to destroy the monstrous wheel, the Red Ranger called upon the power of Titanus to finish it off. As Titanus rolled into battle, the Rangers merged the Megazord with Dragonzord to create a new formation called Mega Dragonzord, which subsequently joined with Titanus.
The cockpit was located within the head of the Mega Dragonzord and used the same setup and controls as the Megazord. Normally, the Ultrazord would be piloted by the Red, Blue, Black, Pink and Yellow Rangers. However, upon return from Rita Repulsa’s Island of Illusion, the Green Ranger joined the other Rangers, standing behind the Red Ranger in the cockpit.
Powers and abilities
In order to allow the Mega Dragonzord to dock, Titanus separated and moved its tail into position as two shoulder-mounted cannons at either side of the Zord. The forward section of Titanus folded outwards to allow for the chest plate of Dragonzord to move into its place. Titanus’s paws were seperated and joined to the arms of the Mega Dragonzord as gauntlets.
With Ultrazord formed, the massive machine was able to roll towards its target firing a barrage of energy blasts which not only destroyed the Wheel of Misfortune, but forced Goldar and Scorpina to retreat. [MMPR1: “Wheel of Misfortune“]
Whilst the Ultrazord was able to destroy most giant monsters, it was not able to destroy Lokar. When faced with the power of the Ultrazord attack, Lokar appeared to react in pain but was able to retreat. [MMPR1: “Island of Illusion, Part II“]
Some time later during Lokar’s return, Lokar was able to rebuild Goldar’s warzord Cyclopsus after it had been destroyed by the Ultrazord. [MMPR1: “Doomsday, Part I“] Once the Rangers learned how to destroy Cyclopsus, they were able to use the Ultrazord to obliterate it permanently. [MMPR1: “Doomsday, Part II“]
Ultrazord vs Monsters
The Ultrazord was normally able to end battles quickly with monsters able to offer little resistance. Giant monsters destroyed by Ultrazord include;
